Politically Correct

The religious world preaches sermons every Sunday that focus on nothing but God’s love. Many sermons portray both the Father and Son as being without severity and wrath (Rom 11:22, 2 Thess 1:7-9). In fact, Jesus is depicted as being politically correct, accepting of sin, and basically weak. Brethren, this could not be farther from the truth.  The world is continuing to get farther from the Bible and closer to their “pastors”. People believe what they are told without seeing it for themselves. Paul wrote to the brethren in Thessalonica to test the things they were being taught (1 Thess 5:21). They were expected to prove what they heard and hold on to what they found to be truth.

If the denominational world read through the life of Christ, what would they really learn about Him? For starters, they would learn that Christ was intolerant of sin and all who promoted it. When discussing the scribes and Pharisees, Jesus rebuked them for being hypocrites, described them as being blind, and called them “vipers” (Matt 23:23-33). He was never accepting of alternative lifestyles or teaching what was contrary to the will of God. He chose honesty over tolerance. This is why Christ was hated by so many (John 15:18).

Jesus was not only intolerant of sin but His teaching did not accept everyone for “who they are”. Jesus taught that change was a must. No man can be accepted with Christ and ignore His teachings (John 15:14). Man must change his life and turn it over to Christ even if that means letting go of family (Matt 10:34-39). This teaching offended those He was teaching, but He did not apologize and “correct” it (John 6:60-66). In fact, He simply repeated Himself with more detail and many disciples walked away.

No man was more loving than Jesus the Christ. However, man’s definition of love and Christ’s definition are very different. Love is about teaching the Truth of the scriptures, even when it offends, not about accepting or ignoring sin in people’s lives in order to make people happy. Christ was not crucified so man could be more accepting of himself. In fact, He died so man could become someone other than himself. The true message of Christ is not about political correctness, it is about spiritual correctness.
