JAMES 1:11

For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth:  so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

 

1.    Sun

A.   Strong (2246):  the sun

B.    Thayer:  the sun, the rays of the sun, the light of day

C.   Vine:  the sun, as a means of destruction

 

2.    No sooner risen

A.   Strong (393):  to cause to rise up, to rise

B.    Thayer:  to rise, arise

C.   Vine:  to arise, especially of things in the natural creation, the rising of the sun

 

3.    Burning heat

A.   Strong (2742):  a glare

B.    Thayer:  burning heat of the sun

C.   Vine:  denotes a burning heat

 

4.    Withereth

A.   Strong (3583):  to desiccate; by implication to shrivel

B.    Thayer:  to make dry, dry up, wither

C.   Vine:  to dry up, parch, wither

 

5.    Grass

A.   Strong (5528):  a court or garden, that is, (by implication of pasture) herbage or vegetation

B.    Thayer:  the place where grass grows and animals graze, of green grass

C.   Vine:  primarily denoted a feeding enclosure…green grass

 

6.    Flower

A.   Strong (438):  a blossom

B.    Thayer:  a flower

C.   Vine:  a blossom, flower

 

7.   Falleth

A.   Strong (1601):  to drop away, to lose, become inefficient

B.    Thayer:  to fall out of, to fall off…to perish…to fall to the ground

C.   Vine:  to fall out of, is used literally in the N.T. of flowers that wither in the course of nature

 

8.   Grace

A.   Strong (2143):  good suitableness, that is gracefulness

B.    Thayer:  goodly appearance, shapeliness, beauty, comeliness

C.   Vine:  comeliness, goodly appearance

 

9.   Fashion

A.   Strong (4383):  literally the front (as being towards view), that is the countenance, aspect, appearance

B.    Thayer:  the outward appearance of inanimate things

C.   Vine:  the face, countenance

 

10. Perisheth

A.   Strong (622):  to destroy fully…to perish

B.    Thayer:  to destroy

C.   Vine:  to destroy utterly

 

11.  Fadeth away

A.   Strong (3133):  to extinguish, pass away

B.    Thayer:  to extinguish, make to waste away, perish

C.   Vine:  to waste away

 

12. Ways

A.   Strong (4197):  proceedings, that is career

B.    Thayer:  a going, that is:  purpose, pursuit, undertaking

C.   Vine:  a journey, a going
