JAMES 1:19

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.

 

1.    Beloved

A.   Strong (27):  beloved

B.    Thayer:  beloved, esteemed, dear, favorite, worthy of love

C.   Vine:  to love, dearly beloved

 

2.    Brethren

A.   Strong (80):  a brother, near or remote

B.    Thayer:  a brother, a fellow believer, united to another by the bond of affection, brethren in Christ

C.   Vine:  a brother, believers

 

3.    Let every

A.   Strong (3956):  all, any, every, the whole

B.    Thayer:  every, any, all, the whole, everyone

C.   Vine:  every one of a class, any and every, of every kind, all every man

 

4.    Man

A.   Strong (444):  manfaced, that is, a human being

B.    Thayer:  human being, whether male or female

C.   Vine:  a human being, male or female, without reference to sex or nationality

 

5.    Swift

A.   Strong (5036):  fleet, that is prompt or ready

B.    Thayer:  quick, fleet, speedy

C.   Vine:  swift, speedy

 

6.    Hear

A.   Strong (191):  to hear

B.    Thayer:  to hear, to attend to, consider what is or has been said, to understand, perceive the sense of what is said

C.   Vine:  to hear

 

7.   Slow

A.   Strong (1021):  slow

B.    Thayer:  slow

C.   Vine:  slow

 

8.   Speak

A.   Strong (2980):  to talk, that is, to utter words

B.    Thayer:  to utter a voice, to speak, to talk, to use words in order to declare one’s mind and disclose one’s thoughts

C.   Vine:  to speak

 

9.   Wrath

A.   Strong (3709):  excitement of the mind…violent passion

B.    Thayer:  anger, wrath, indignation

C.   Vine:  anger, as the strongest of all passions
