Likewise also was not Rehab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

 

1.    Rehab

A.   Strong (4460):  Raab (that is, Rachab), a Canaanitess

B.    Thayer:  wide, a harlot of Jericho

C.   Vine:  N/A

 

2.    Harlot

A.   Strong (4204):  a strumpet       :-  harlot, whore

B.    Thayer:  a woman who sells her body for sexual uses, a prostitute, a harlot, one who yields herself to defilement for the sake of gain

C.   Vine:  a prostitute, harlot (from pernemi, to sell)

 

3.    Justified

A.   Strong (1344):  to render just or innocent

B.    Thayer:  to render righteous…to declare, pronounce, one to be just, righteous, or

such as he ought to be

C.   Vine:  primarily, deem to be right…to declare to be righteous, to pronounce righteous

 

4.    Works

A.   Strong (2041):  to work; toil (as an effort or occupation); by implication an act

B.    Thayer:  an act, deed, thing done:  the idea of working emphasized in opposition to

 that which is less than work

C.   Vine:  work…denotes every activity undertaken for Christ’s sake

 

5.    Received

A.   Strong (5264):  to admit under one’s roof, that is, entertain hospitably

B.    Thayer:  to receive as a guest

C.   Vine:  to receive under one’s roof, receive as a guest, entertain hospitably

 

6.    Messengers

A.   Strong (32):  a messenger

B.    Thayer:  messenger, envoy, one who is sent

C.   Vine:  messenger, one sent

 

7.   Sent them out

A.   Strong (1544):  to eject            :-  send away (forth, out)

B.    Thayer:  …to send out…to compel one to depart, to bid one depart, in stern thought and violent language

C.   Vine:  to send

 

 

 

8.   Another

A.   Strong (2087):  other or different

B.    Thayer:  another…as opposed to same, former…thing

C.   Vine:  another of a different sort

 

9.   Way

A.   Strong (3598):  a road

B.    Thayer:  a way, a travelled way, a road, a traveller’s way

C.   Vine:  a natural path, road, way…a traveller’s way
