My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
1. Brethren
A. Strong (80): a brother
B. Thayer: a brother, a fellow believer, united to another by the bond of affection
C. Vine: male children of the same parents…all believers
2. Masters
A. Strong (1320): an instructor (generally or specifically) :- doctor, master, teacher
B. Thayer: teacher, of those in the religious assemblies of the Christians who undertook the work of teaching
C. Vine: a teacher
3. Knowing
A. Strong (1492): to see…to know
B. Thayer: to see…to turn the eyes, the mind, the attention to anything…to know…the force and meaning of something which has definite meaning
C. Vine: N/A
4. Shall receive
A. Strong (2983): to have offered to one
B. Thayer: to receive (what is given)
C. Vine: to receive
5. Greater
A. Strong (3187): larger
B. Thayer: greater, larger, older, stronger
C. Vine: comparative degree of “megas,” great…ASV has “the greater judgment”
6. Condemnation
A. Strong (2917): a decision (the function or the effect, for or against [“crime”]
B. Thayer: judgment, condemnation of wrong, the decision (whether severe or mild) which one passes on the faults of others
C. Vine: a sentence pronounced, a verdict, a condemnation…”unto the pronouncement of the sentence of condemnation”
