For in many things we offend all.  If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

 

1.    In many things

A.   Strong (4183):  much, many

B.    Thayer:  much many, large

C.    Vine:  much, many, great, is used especially of number when its significance is “many”

 

2.    Offend

A.   Strong (4417):  to trip, that is, (figuratively) to err, sin, fail

B.    Thayer:  to cause one to stumble or fall, to stumble, to err, make a mistake, to sin

C.    Vine:  to cause to stumble…with moral significance

 

3.    Word

A.   Strong (3056):  something said

B.    Thayer:  of speech, a word, uttered by a living voice, embodies a conception or idea, what someone has said

C.    Vine:  expression of thought…a saying or statement

 

4.    Perfect

A.   Strong (5046):  complete (in various applications of labor, growth, mental and moral   characteristics, etc.), completeness

B.    Thayer:  brought to an end, finished, wanting nothing necessary to complete

C.    Vine:  a fulfillment, completion, perfection, an end accomplished as an effect of a

process

 

5.    Able

A.   Strong (1415):  powerful or capable

B.    Thayer:  to be able (to do something)…having power for something

C.    Vine:  power, ability, physical or moral, as residing in a person or thing

 

6.    Bridle

A.   Strong (5468):  to be a bit leader, that is, to curb

B.    Thayer:  to bridle, hold in check, restrain

C.    Vine:  signifies to lead by a bridle, to bridle, hold in check, restrain

 

7.    Whole

A.   Strong (3650):  whole, all complete            :-  all, altogether, every whit, + throughout, whole

B.    Thayer:  all, whole, completely

C.    Vine:  the whole

 

8.    Body

A.   Strong (4983):  the body

B.    Thayer:  the body of man

C.    Vine:  the body as a whole, instrument of life
