KEY TEXT: 1 Peter 2:17

        I.            Honor All People

a.       Sometimes we forget John 3:16 … “For God so loved the world…”

b.      RACIAL ISSUES – Ephesians 6:12

c.       2 Peter 3:9 … “The Lord is not slack…” > Col. 4:5-6

d.      11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, 12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation

(1 Pet. 2:11-12).

e.       2 Timothy 2:24-26

f.        But there is HOPE: Acts 10:9-15 (Cornelius)

     II.            Love the Brotherhood

a.       22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.

(1 Pet. 1:22-23).

b.      Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world (1 Pet. 5:8-9).

                                                              i.      You are not alone: 1 Kings 19: 10,14, (18)

c.       But there is HOPE:

1.      “If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews? (Gal. 2:14-15). (Paul rebukes Peter)

  III.            Fear God

a.       10“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,

And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

11For by me your days will be multiplied,

And years of life will be added to you.

12If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,

And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.” (Prov. 9:10-12) >Rom. 1:18-23

b.      13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:13-16).

c.       There is HOPE: Matthew 10:28 > Acts 5:29

  IV.            Honor the King

a.       13 Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme, 14 or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good. 15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men—16 as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God (1 Pet. 2:13-16).

                                                              i.      Why

1.      “For the Lord’s sake” (13)

2.      “For this is the will of God” (15) > Romans 13:1-7

ii.      Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Tim. 2:1-4).

                                                          iii.      Matthew 7:21-23

1.      The Lord did not ask us to do something that He did not do!

2.      21 They said to Him, “Caesar’s.”

And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s” (Matt. 22:21).
