TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL April 25, 2024 Deuteronomy 23:7, 8 – Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a stranger in his land. The children that are begotten of them shall enter into the congregation of the Lord in their third generation. Thought: The Edomites were the descendants of Esau, the brother of Jacob. Because of this shared bloodline, the Edomites were not to be despised. God also commanded Israel not to abhor the Egyptians. This nation housed Israel for many years until the iniquity of the Amorites was full. If the Jews had children by either of these nationalities, their children could enter into the congregation of the Lord in the third generation. God sees distinctions in people.
